Walt Disney Animation Studios Drops First Trailer for “Hexed” and It Looks Absolutely Magical. Disney just gave us something to look forward to this Thanksgiving, and honestly we are already counting down the days. Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the very first trailer for their upcoming film “Hexed,” and it is everything you would hope for from a Disney animated adventure. Witches, magic, mystery, and a whole lot of heart. This one looks special.

The story centers on a teenager named Billie, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, who gets expelled from school after a magical mishap she cannot quite explain. Rather than returning home, Billie finds herself pulled into a hidden world called Hexe, a wild and mysterious place filled with witches and untamed magic. It is there, far from the suburbs and the life she has always known, that Billie begins to understand something she has felt her whole life: that maybe she is not broken, maybe she is just different in ways the ordinary world was never built to hold.
The directors, Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, have been very intentional about the emotional core of this story. Veerasunthorn described Billie as someone who has always felt miscast in her own life, and that it takes leaving everything familiar behind to begin to truly understand herself. Hand added that Hexe is a place where Billie feels seen for the first time, and that the journey she goes on reveals not just her connection to magic but long-held secrets about her family as well. The combination of those two elements, self-discovery and family mystery, sounds like a genuinely compelling foundation for a Disney animated film.
The voice cast is absolutely stacked. Alongside Steinfeld, Rashida Jones voices Billie’s mom, the always brilliant Tracey Ullman takes on the role of a character named Ms. Quill, and Stephen Fry voices Elias Quire. If you know Stephen Fry’s voice, you already know that casting alone has us intrigued. The film is co-directed by Josie Trinidad and produced by Roy Conli and Yvett Merino, both of whom have deep roots in Disney Animation.
Visually, even from just the first trailer, “Hexed” has a look and feel that sets it apart. The world of Hexe feels lush and strange in all the right ways, and the animation style carries that sense of wonder that Disney Animation does so well when they are firing on all cylinders. There is a confidence to the visual language here that makes us think this one has been crafted with real care.
“Hexed” arrives in theaters on November 25, Thanksgiving Day, which is honestly a perfect slot for a movie like this. Disney has a long tradition of delivering something magical for the holiday season, and if the trailer is any indication, “Hexed” is going to be well worth gathering the family together to see. Will you be heading to theaters on Thanksgiving to catch this one? Let us know in the comments!
