Walt Disney Imagineering Shares New Behind the Scenes Look at Monstropolis Disney Animation and Disney Cruise Line MagicWalt Disney Imagineering Shares New Behind-the-Scenes Look at Monstropolis, Disney Animation, and Disney Cruise Line Magic. It’s been an exciting few days for Disney fans. Just yesterday, we shared the newly revealed backstory for Monstropolis and learned why humans are finally being welcomed into the monster world. Earlier this week, we also talked about the upcoming transformation of the Animation Courtyard area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including the return of the Magic of Disney Animation in a brand-new way. Now, Walt Disney Imagineering has released a new video that gives us an even closer look at both projects, while also taking fans behind the scenes aboard the Disney Magic.

The video showcases several projects currently being worked on by Disney Imagineers and offers a fascinating glimpse into the creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that goes into bringing Disney stories to life.

The video also gives fans a closer look at the future of the Magic of Disney Animation experience coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Imagineers discuss the creative vision behind the project and how it will immerse guests in the world of Disney animation, celebrating the artists and storytellers who have brought beloved characters to life for generations.

the Magic of Disney Animation

One of the most exciting reveals is “Drawn to Wonderland,” an imaginative indoor play space inspired by Disney Legend Mary Blair’s original concept artwork for Alice in Wonderland. Young guests will be able to explore a colorful world filled with familiar locations from the classic film, including the whimsical Mad Tea Party, the Mad Hatter’s house, the Queen of Hearts’ vibrant rose garden, and the mysterious Tulgey Wood. Designed to encourage creativity, exploration, and play, the area looks like it will be a wonderful addition for families visiting the park.

For longtime Hollywood Studios fans, there’s something especially exciting about seeing animation return to the forefront of this area of the park. The Magic of Disney Animation was once a favorite attraction for many guests, and while this new experience is different from what came before, it appears to capture that same spirit of creativity, imagination, and appreciation for the art of animation that helped make the original so special.

The next segment of the video takes viewers out to sea aboard the Disney Magic, where crews recently completed restoration work on one of the ship’s most recognizable features—Goofy on the stern.

Disney Wish Goofy

For Disney Cruise Line fans, the stern characters have become iconic symbols of each vessel. The video shows the refurbishment process as Imagineers and maintenance teams carefully repaired and repainted Goofy, ensuring he continues greeting guests from the back of the ship for years to come. While it may seem like a small detail, it’s exactly the kind of attention to detail that Disney fans appreciate and have come to expect.

The final part of the video and for me the highlight is look behind the walls into  Monstropolis, the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-influenced area planned for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While yesterday’s reveal focused heavily on the story behind the land and the “historic decision” to allow humans into the monster world, this latest video gives fans a chance to see more of the creative process behind the scenes.

Monstropolis

Concept artwork, models, and development work continue to reinforce Disney’s goal of creating a city that feels like it was pulled directly from the Pixar film. The colorful architecture, playful monster-inspired design elements, and immersive storytelling all appear to be coming together to create a land that fans have wanted to visit since Monsters, Inc. first debuted in 2001.

Whether it’s building an entirely new land, reimagining a classic animation experience, or restoring a beloved Disney Cruise Line icon, this latest Imagineering update serves as a reminder that Disney storytelling extends far beyond attractions. It’s found in the details, the artistry, and the dedication of the people working behind the scenes every day.

As we continue following the development of Monstropolis and The Magic of Disney Animation experience, videos like this offer an exciting preview of what’s ahead. And for Disney Cruise Line fans, it’s always nice to see a familiar friend like Goofy getting a little extra Disney magic of his own. One thing is certain—there’s a lot to look forward to, both on land and at sea.
