In the newly released behind-the-scenes video, Walt Disney Imagineering walks fans through some of the many Easter eggs hidden throughout Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The attraction officially opens May 26 and transforms the former Aerosmith-themed coaster into a chaotic, music-filled adventure starring Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.
According to Imagineers, the attraction is filled with tributes to Muppet history spanning decades of television shows, movies, Disney Parks experiences, and even previously retired theme park props.
One of the biggest surprises featured in the video is the return of props and references from Muppet*Vision 3D, including recreated and preserved elements honoring the fan-favorite attraction that recently closed at Hollywood Studios. Guests can also spot references to classic Muppet productions, callbacks to Jim Henson’s legacy, and visual gags tucked throughout the queue and ride areas.
The video also highlights recreated versions of iconic Muppet props, including Kermit’s famous banjo from “The Rainbow Connection,” which Imagineers recreated for display after the original was donated to the Walt Disney Archives.
Fans of Disney Parks history will likely appreciate the return of the beloved Muppet Mobile Lab animatronic, which previously appeared at EPCOT years ago and now makes an appearance inside the attraction as another hidden nod for longtime fans.
Imagineers also revealed just how much new footage was created specifically for the attraction. More than 30 minutes of original content featuring The Muppets and celebrity cameos was filmed for the queue and pre-show areas, including appearances from stars like John Stamos, Weird Al Yankovic, Neil Patrick Harris, Darren Criss, and more.
The Imagineering team also discussed the attraction’s soundtrack, revealing that more than 100 songs were tested before selecting the final lineup heard onboard the coaster. The randomized soundtrack now features performances by The Electric Mayhem along with collaborations involving artists like Kelly Clarkson, Def Leppard, Jennifer Hudson, and Questlove.
