Behind the Magic: Designing and Building the Disney Starlight Parade Floats. Creating floats for a night parade brings an extra dimension to the live entertainment production process. This initial glimpse at the floats shows that they are not merely static structures – they serve as storytelling platforms on wheels.

When we imagine what storytelling at night is like, we picture crafting these landscapes – or dreamscapes, as we like to call them – using light. How can we leverage this medium to express movement, color, and visuals that we typically associate with a more scenic float during the day? With today’s technology, we have more choices than ever to utilize lighting and video as a means of storytelling.
For instance, the Blue Fairy magic, seen throughout the parade, is made completely from points of light; the use of a curved LED panels on the Encanto float gives the opportunity to create magic and movement that a static image would not provide. This is the exciting technology and art of the “Disney Starlight” floats.
The grand finale float train was inspired by the Main Street Electrical Parade take dreamers of all ages on a ride through the stars. A swirl of starlight shows Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck at the front of a parade filled with Disney memories. You can spot Snow White and Dopey in a sparkling minecar, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider drifting towards a shining lantern on their boat, and Aladdin and Jasmine enjoying a ride on a magic carpet.
Wrapping up the celebration are the iconic dreamers, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, adorned in their dazzling new outfits. Together, this pair bids us farewell, encouraging us to have faith in the magic of wishing on a star.
Nothing brings together a parade like the music and Disney Starlight has an original theme that truly embodies all the majestic and fantasy feelings you get watching a parade come down Main Street, U.S.A. with Cinderella Castle in the background. For Disney fans, this new theme may have some surprises that sound familiar – be sure to listen closely for some Disney Parks favorites woven into the score.
