The Disney Treasure rescues 4 people off Sinking Catamaran

On November 10th, the new Disney Cruise Ship, the Treasure saved four people who were on a sinking catamaran that was located over 200 miles from Bermuda.

The US Coast Guard received the distress call from the small catamaran which in turned launched their emergency to get help to the sinking vessel.  The closest vessel to the emergency was the Disney Treasure which was roughly 80 miles away.  The Disney Treasure is currently sailing from Europe to the United States to prepare for its maiden voyage next month out of Port Canaveral Florida.

The small catamaran named the Serenity, began to fill with water after a seal around the escape hatch failed.  The Serenity is only 15 meters in length which is approximately 49 feet long. For those unaware, a catamarans consists of two parallel hulls connected by a single deck, and range from lightweight boats used in Olympic sailing, to huge passenger ferries.

The Disney Treasure sent a smaller boat to save the passengers of the Serenity and get them to safety.

The Disney Treasure Captain Marco Nogara said, “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril,”  He added, “Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety.”
