Disneyland employee bashed for ‘destroying’ couple’s proposal in front of castle

A Disneyland Paris employee has been criticized online for ruining a couple’s engagement in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

As reported by the New York Post, a spokesperson for Disneyland Paris has issued an apology after a viral video was shared on social media showing the moment the romantic gesture was interrupted.

The clip was originally shared on Reddit by user ‘wasgehtlan’, who captioned the clip: “POS [piece of s***] destroyed my best friends moment. He asked for permission beforehand.”

The video shows a man dressed in white taking to an elevated stage with his partner, before dropping down to one knee and holding out a ring. But soon after, a Disneyland employee can be seen rushing between the pair, taking the ring, and walking off the stage.

The employee, wearing Mickey Mouse ears, then stands there waiting for the couple to leave the stage.

“She said, ‘yes,'” the man tells the cast member, appearing to gesture to another Disney worker off-screen.

“Yes, that’s great,” the employee responds, “but over here will be even better,” motioning for the couple to leave the stage area.

The post has amassed more than 94,000 upvotes on the social media platform, with many Redditors taking to the comments section to voice their complaints.

“Even if you think you’re doing the right thing enforcing some policy or other, you DO NOT snatch an expensive engagement ring out of someone’s f***ing hand,” one person wrote.

A second added: “He has to be fired for this, like there’s no way Disney can have a guy working for them who doesn’t understand a wedding ring is not something to be snatched away mid-proposal. This video is ridiculous.”

“Seriously it ruins the magic. A little rule bending for such a special moment is the magic that you remember,” commented a third.

However, one person in the comments section who claimed to have worked at the park, offered some explanation, writing: “So these are character stages, guests are [definitely] not allowed here.

“The coworker saying it was ok made a mistake, only management can authorize those sort of things, and if it happens, they are escorted by castmembers. The guy may have been overzealous and wanted to be theatrical, though. There certainly was a better solution for this situation.”

And it would appear that officials for Disney agree, as they have offered the following statement to Newsweekregarding the video

“We regret how this was handled. We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right.”

Let’s hope this couple gets to enjoy their happily ever after in the end.
