Another Avenger To Appear In The Falcon and Winter Soldier Series on Disney+

The highly anticipated series, The Falcon and Winter Soldier is set to debut on Disney+ March 19th.  We now we have confirmation that another Avenger will be joining the cast.  In an interview with BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Don Cheadle confirmed that James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine will guest star in the upcoming series.

“It’s really a fun and interesting and, by all imagination, completely open-ended — this can go anywhere,” Cheadle told BroBible. “It’s great, I can’t wait to get in the room with the writers and figure out how all those things [connecting Armor Wars to the MCU] happen. You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show. So, it can be a lot.”

“That’s some of the fun of the MCU, that we all get to show up in each other’s stories, and there are ways that we’re cross-platforming these characters, and they become storylines, sometimes, in the movies. And then these storylines in the movies become storylines in the shows,” Cheadle added.

For those who are unfamiliar with Rhodey in the MCU, the character first appeared in the first Iron Man film.  In that film, Terrence Howard played the Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes who is an officer with the United States Air Force and liaison between the military in the Department of Acquisitions and Stark Industries.  In Iron Man 2, Howard was replaced by Don Cheadle who has appeared in many of the MCU films since.  He took up the title of War Machine in the 2nd Iron Man film.  At Disney’s 2020 Investor Day stream, Kevin Feige announced that an Armor Wars series was in development for Disney+ with Don Cheadle set to reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role of James Rhodes/War Machine in the series.  At this point, we don’t know exactly how large of a role War Machine will have in The Falcon and Winter Soldier series, but I’m sure it will tie into Armor Wars.
