The Disney Legend Awards were establish in 1987, and were originally awarded yearly, but since the start of the D23 Expo are now awarded every other year at the Expo.
“Recipients are chosen by a selection committee, formerly appointed and chaired by the late Disney Legend Roy E. Disney, Walt Disney’s nephew, former vice chairman and director emeritus of The Walt Disney Company.”
Historians, Company Execs, and other important Disney notables sit on the committee.
