Loot Crate Review October 2015 – Theme: Time

October 21, 2015 , ,

It’s that time of month for me to review my latest Loot Crate.  The October theme was Time, and deals with time travel.  Appropriately, today, October 21st, 2015 is the date that Marty McFly in 1989 went to, in Back to the Future II.

Now we don’t have flying cars yet, but some of the things they had in the movie have come to reality (or are in the works) in one way or another.  With the Google Glasses we have phone glasses, we have video chats, Nike has said they are developing self lacing shoes and the hover board is also being worked on.  The future did predict that the Cubs would win the World Series this year and they are in the playoffs, so it’s a possibility.  However, the Jaws franchise really needs to catch up to #19.

For now, lets get to the review:

The box this month was a bit larger than usual which made me wonder what what items are in the box that it needed to be a bit larger.

Upon opening, the first two items had me excited to explore more of the box right away but lets go one item at a time.  Lets start with the shirt.

In 1989, Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan took us to the past to kidnap some of the greatest people in the history of the world in order to complete their history final and not fail.  Rufus, played by George Carlin reminded us to “Be Excellent to Each Other” and now I have the shirt that reminds us of that.  I have to admit, I’m kinda excited to wear this and see if I get any response from others who see it.

Next up, the Dr. Emmett Brown Pop! Vinyl.  Normally if you get a shirt in a Loot Crate you don’t get an item like a Pop! Vinyl.  This one is a Loot Crate exclusive and a great addition to my Pop! Vinyl collection.

IMG_1015I do admit, i’m not a Whovian.  I know I can hear the boo’s from everyone out there.  I have learned some things about the franchise, I just haven’t had time to become a watcher of the series.  However, this is a pretty awesome piece of Dr. Who to have.  Growing up, I remember using the spork in school.  What the perfect utensil, you can eat anything that required either a spoon or fork without changing utensil.  How great is that?  This is the Sonic Screwdriver Spork and a very interesting collectible to have.

The last item is a great thing, it’s a desk version of the famous Mattel Hover Board from Back to the Future II.  When the movie came out, there wasn’t a kid that didn’t want the Hover Board.  Now I have one, well at least a version to display on my desk.  This was created exclusively for Loot Crate, it’s 5 inches in length and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

The magazine and button this month reflect the theme.  On the magazine cover we see Dr. Who, the fire left after the Delorean hit 88 MPH and the Wyld Stallyns, Bill and Ted.  The button this month is the flux capacitor which makes time travel possible.

Inside the magazine we got cosplay instructions of how to dress as Bill, Ted or Marty McFly.  We also got a interview with the team members who bring us the Loot Crate‘s each and every month.  We also get a fold out of the Delorean license plate from Back to the Future

and on the backside a chart to find out whose your Doctor, mine was the Twelfth Doctor.

This month’s crate didn’t have as many things as most crates do, but I have to say the 4 items that were included are absolutely amazing.  Just looking at the cost, the Pop! Vinyls are roughly $10 each and the Hover Board would be probably $20 in any store.  Add that with the shirt and Dr. Who spork and this crate is easily a $60+ value and it’s only $13.95 plus S&H.  If you haven’t signed up yet, you should right away so you don’t miss out on next month’s Loot Crate.  The theme for November hasn’t been announced yet, but I’m sure it will be great.
