Pirates After the Refurb ~ Little Changes that make a Big Difference!

As most of you know, Pirates of the Caribbean at the Magic Kingdom was closed for the entire summer for refurbishment. It sure was quiet back there, especially at night, it was really noticed that the beloved attraction was on hiatus. That being said, Pirates is back, and we finally got to take a ride through it yesterday! I couldn’t wait to check it out, as I wanted to see if I could spot what was different. Here are a few of my observations!

The queue line has torches now, next to where you hear the “digging” before you get on the ride.
My favorite addition… Instead of just seeing Blackbeard in the mist in the beginning, Davy Jones is back too! They alternate, so you get to see both.
The ghost pirate steering the ship has hair now! Also, there is more lightning and thunder in that area.
No mermaids in the water from what I’ve seen, but their song easier to hear.
The boat…. you get wet a lot easier, especially in the front. Plus the cannon scene with Barbosa shoots water and cannon blasts.
Speaking of Barbosa, his clothes are different and there are more lights on the ship.

The pirate with his foot hanging off the bridge now moves, and he’s got a candle by him too.
The animatronics as whole are all cleaned up and crisp. There is more lighting in the scenes, and you can actually hear better. The soundtrack is louder for the scenes so you get a better feel of what’s going on.
The dog at the end moves now and is more animated. His ear flips up, and his fur is more shaggy.

These are just a few of the things that caught my eye right away. If I didn’t go on the attraction often, I probably wouldn’t have noticed as much. Being that POTC is one of our must-do rides, I really did appreciate the updates, it was exciting to see. We got video of our POTC ride through yesterday, you can watch it on the link below! Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel while you’re there too, as we have lots of great videos with more coming. Thanks so much, enjoy your ride!
