My name is Addie and for the next few months, on a biweekly basis, I’m going to take you on an adventure through the exciting world of runDisney. I thought I would start this off by telling you a little about myself, my running journey, and what I have planned for this series.

I’ve never been an overly athletic person…athleticism requires a certain amount of grace and coordination that I was not blessed with. After a brief stint playing soccer as a child, I started to focus on passions that mostly took place indoors. I mean, there’s a reason I’m in grad school in the sciences. So if you could create a time machine and go back to middle or high school me and tell her she’s registered to voluntarily run more than one mile, middle or high school Addie would probably think you’re crazy…and then attempt to run away and trip over her own two feet in the process.

But that was then. This is now. In the summer of 2013, I decided to take some aerobics classes offered by my university with some friends as something to do. They were fun and I really enjoyed them, but when the semester started that fall, I couldn’t really fit any of the classes I was interested into my schedule. But I liked the way the exercising had made me feel, so I decided to become a runner. I knew about runDisney events from a friend of mine (Catie), and I knew if I stuck with this, one day I would HAVE to do one.

Now, I had ZERO base. So I had to start from scratch, which I will get into in the weeks to come. But after a semester of running, having spent a few years watching Catie race various runDisney events with her family, I decided that I wanted to run the Princess Half marathon in 2015. And so here I am, training for the race weekend and sharing this journey with you.

I am in no way an “expert” in runDisney. These blogs are written by a race newbie, for race newbies. But I have a team of runDisney veterans who are willing to help me along the way, so have no fear! I’m aiming to bring you the best info I can. But mostly, I just want to share this journey with you. In the coming weeks, look forward to blogs on picking your race, training for your race, costuming DIY, planning for race weekend, and, of course, a report on race weekend itself.

So lace up your running shoes Main Streeters! We’re off to the races!

runDisney-logoTMSM is very excited to publish the first in a series of  runDisney articles by Addie Clark. Please keep an eye out for more of Addie’s articles as she prepares for her upcoming race!
