The last time I went to Disney, I was looking through my travel books trying to decide another sit down meal for the Magic Kingdom. We always go to the Crystal Palace, which we did earlier that week, but I wanted to try something new. I came across Liberty Tree Tavern, and decided to reserve it for our second trip to the MK that week. Trying something different sounded like a good plan.

When our awesome vacation finally came, and we were on day 5 (our second trip to the MK) it was time to eat. Liberty Tree Tavern is in Liberty Square. I’ve passed it many times before, making the rounds near the Haunted Mansion. We went inside to check in, and my first impression was “oh”. That was it. It has that rustic, Colonial period atmosphere. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was like stepping our of the Magic, and stepping back in time. I wasn’t sure I wanted to eat there, it didn’t seem like the other restaurants I’ve eaten at before while at Disney. I decided to be adventurous and give it a go. I’m so glad I did.

When we sat down, we were greeted right away. Our servers name was Russell. Yes, I remember his name, because he was one of the best we’ve ever had, he was great. The food at Liberty Tree is served family style. The first items brought were salad and bread. Then a huge variety of home style dinner choices arrived. We had a plate with turkey, beef, and pork on it, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, veggies, gravy, etc…. Oh my!! The food was outstanding. I was really amazed at how good everything was, it was even better than home made. We ate, and ate, and ate….. Then, in usual Disney fashion, Russell brought us dessert. It was an apple dish with vanilla ice cream. Being that it wasn’t chocolate, I wasn’t sure my kids would like it. I was SO wrong! Everyone devoured that delicious dessert pretty quickly! My family left Liberty Tree Tavern happy and full!

With all the times I have been to Disney World, and as many times as I’ve walked past, I can’t believe I had never tried Liberty Tree Tavern before. I had learned to not judge a book by it’s cover. While Liberty Tree didn’t have that usual fantasy-like appearance, it sure did have that same Disney quality. In conclusion, if you have never been to Liberty Tree Tavern, I would highly recommend that you give it a try. If you want to have an amazing dining experience, and leave full and happy, then Liberty Tree Tavern is the place to go. Oh, and you can stop by the Christmas store while you’re there, it’s close by!

  1. This restaurant is one of our favorites today because of the food. When they had characters it was one of the best places for character interaction. It seemed that due to the smaller size of the dining area the characters spent more time at each table and were more playful with one another than at other character dining locations.

  2. We went there for the first time when my boys were 2. This was our 2nd visit to WDW so we were still “learning”. We ended up reserving a late dinner at the Liberty Tree, the same time the parade was going by. Everyone was trying to see the parade and no one wanted to eat. One of the boys fell asleep on the chair in the restaurant, and the other was sick. My husband and I were really hungry but were not going to be able to eat because we needed to get the kids to a bed and a bathroom quickly. We told our waitress we were going to have to leave without eating and she quickly returned with “to go” boxes that fit everything at our table. She brought cups for our drinks as well as a tray to hold 4, a bag for the food, forks, spoons, knives and napkins and sent us on our way.
We have since returned many times and we love it there. It is one of our “must do” restaurants. ºoº

  3. It is actually a frequently overlooked place now. I think when they had character dining it was much busier and more well known for its fantastic rustic food. I personally like the place better than the Crystal Palace.
