May 25th, 1977 Star Wars Changes The World

May the force be with you…..

star wars 1977

Were you there the day it opened?  Did you hear that music that has become a favorite of Star Wars fans everywhere?  You saw the now familiar words on the screen:

“A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….”

Next you saw the film name and then the scroll which has become such a huge part of Star Wars.  The first scroll read as follows:

It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have won
their first victory against
the evil Galactic Empire.

During the battle, rebel
spies managed to steal secret
plans to the Empire’s
ultimate weapon, the DEATH
STAR, an armored space
station with enough power to
destroy an entire planet.

Pursued by the Empire’s
sinister agents, Princess
Leia races home aboard her
starship, custodian of the
stolen plans that can save
her people and restore
freedom to the galaxy….

We then see the Imperial Star Destroyer and we are emerged into the Space Opera that George Lucas gave us.  George Lucas could have never seen the impact the Star Wars films would have on the world we live in.  Considering the budget he had to make the films, he did an amazing job before there ever was anything we now know as CGI.  The film makers that were inspired by what George created.  The want to be film makers, so many people loved what he did that they wanted to follow the path and have.

Star Wars is a culture that many people consider a huge part of their life.  From the memories of seeing the films in the theaters when released, to sharing those with certain people, to collecting and replaying the movie with the toys, Star Wars has touched more people than any other movie franchise in history.  I was born in 1975, just 2 years old when the first film was released, I honestly don’t know at what age my first memory was of the movie.  But I was hooked with Empire and Return of the Jedi years later, and have been a fan ever since.

Today in honor of this anniversary, think back and remember the first time you saw the film.  We see it so much how this franchise is around and stronger than ever.  From the collecting of toys, to the cosplay, conventions, television shows, rides, Star Wars Land coming to Disney and how can we forget about the films.

This year, I was very fortunate to attend my first Star Wars Celebration.  It was amazing.  The absolute highlight of the weekend for me was when I just happened to be walking by the Star Wars Show Live.  There was nothing really going at the time, so we stood and were just watching.  All of a sudden the crew started moving all around.  They were setting up cameras and such and you could tell something was about to happen.  Moments later it was announced, “Welcome to the stage, George Lucas” and the place erupted.  Here I was just 10 feet away from the man that created this Universe so many love.  Not that anything else needed to happen, but then all of a sudden, Harrison Ford came walking out.  It was amazing and something I will never forget.  Star Wars will always live on and it all started 40 years ago today.

Star Wars will always live on as it’s touched so many generations over time.  Parents who took their kids in 1977 to see the first film, and then those kids taking their children years later.  It’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years since that first film came out.

THANK YOU George Lucas for what you did for me and so many who love your story and thank you to Disney for continuing the story so it never stops.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!!
