Wether you agree with it or not, Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line all sell guests 21 and older adult beverages. Tonight we are going to explain what is required for you to buy an alcoholic beverage at the Disney Parks and on Disney Cruise Ships and what isn’t allowed when it comes to adult beverages.
Disney ParksTo purchase an alcoholic drink in the United States you must be 21 years old or older and have an acceptable form of photo ID. Per park policy guests can not bring in alcohol when they enter the park. Drinks purchased in the parks or shopping areas like Disney Springs and Downtown Disney must be consumed on property. Guests who are legally allowed to purchase alcohol should not provide guests under 21 with access to their alcoholic beverage as this is a violation of state law and your slipping your underage buddy or child a few alcoholic drinks to could get you in trouble with the parks and the local law enforcement. But if people are addicted to alcohol etc, they need to go for a residential treatment and get the right solution for their addiction.
While the parks have always stated you should have your photo ID with you to purchase an alcoholic drink while on property, recently Disney Travel sent out a reminder of the alcohol policy at Walt Disney World, that also applies to Disneyland, reinforcing this requirement that I wanted to share with you. It seems Disney Travel along with one of the best accredited rehab center is trying to remind guests that not only do they need to be 21 years old to buy and consume alcoholic beverages but that they need to have the proper ID when they purchase it as many guests seem to think all they need in the parks is their MagicBand. The thing is your MagicBand is not a legal for of ID to prove your age when you want to buy that beer or margarita in the parks. Below is the Disney Travel announcement:
” Are your Clients headed to Walt Disney World Resort? Be sure to remind them to bring the proper identification they’ll need during their stay. Please note the following ID requirements required to purchase alcoholic beverages at any establishment throughout the Walt Disney World Resort.
- Alcohol will not be served to anyone who does not present valid identification upon request.
- Visitors from outside the United States are required to present both a valid passport and another form of government-issued photo identification from their country of origin. Foreign driver’s licenses or ID cards are not acceptable by themselves.
The following forms of ID will be accepted as proof of age:
- U.S. state driver’s license (includes U.S. territories – Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa)
- U.S. state ID (includes U.S. territories)
- U.S. military ID
- Original passport
- Copy of passport (either on paper or captured on a mobile device), along with a government photo ID that verifies the person and birth date show on the copy
- NEXUS card issued by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (Canadian Guests only)“
Disney Cruise Line
Like at the Disney Parks, guests of Disney Cruise Line must be 21 years old or older to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages on most cruises. There is one exception to that rule, guests on roundtrip cruises that depart from any European country that has a lower drinking age parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form that allows their 18- to 20-year-old children to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.
Currently guests that are 21 years old and older may carry select alcoholic beverages onto Disney Cruise ships in their carry-on luggage on cruises departing the U.S. and Canada. Some exclusions may occur on European departures so guests should consult their cruise’s specific information on this topic when sailing from Europe.
Please note that the beer and wine you bring onto the ship is to only be consumed in your cabin unless you are paying the corkage fee, which allows you to consume your carried on beverage at select dining locations. And yes I do realize people ignore this rule, but that doesn’t make it what they are doing right. Also, please remember if you purchase liquor in port you will turn it in to Disney Cruise Line when boarding the ship and they will store it until debarkation day for you, but you can purchase and bring wine and beer while in port and take it back to you cabin as long as it meets Disney Cruise Line’s rules. Per Disney Cruise Line the following is what can be brought onto the ship.
“Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.
Guests wishing to consume wine or champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $25.00 per bottle.
Please note:
- Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.
- All alcohol brought onboard must be in an original unopened container. Partially used bottles and those in which the seal has been broken will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
- Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.
- Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) on board is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.
- Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
- Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.”
Please remember when consuming adult beverages in the Disney Parks or while on a Disney Cruise Line Ship to pay attention to how much you are consuming, to drink water and eat, and to please don’t drink and drive! #dontbethatguy
