This morning an updated copy of the “Disney Vacation Club Members Extras Acknowledgment and Disclosure Statement (MEADS)” and a letter written by the Senior Vice President & General Manager of Disney Vacation Club & Adventures by Disney Ken Potrock were posted to DVC member’s Member Portal Dashboard. The letter explains that effect April 6, 2016 those individuals who are purchasing points through outside re-sale sources will no longer have access to a large number of DVC Membership Extras.
Currently this change only effects re-sale owners that purchase a DVC interest through an outside source on or after April 6 of this year. So if you are looking at purchasing a DVC re-sale contract, you want to remember that unless you purchase it directly from DVC as of April 6, 2016 you can no longer take advantage of certain discounts, offers, and special events. DVC removed the options for resale buyers to use points on stays at the Disney and Concierge Collections several years ago, but to be honest this change is not completely surprising as re-sale purchases through outside sources have continued to grow over the last few years.
Below is a copy of the letter from Ken Potrock to DVC Members dated April 6, 2016 explaining the new changes.
Dear Disney Vacation Club Member,
Our goal at Disney Vacation Club has always been to create magical experiences for you and your families – experiences you simply can’t find anywhere else but Disney.
As our Member community continues to grow, we want to make sure we can continue to deliver the Membership Extras that add value to your overall experience – offerings that are provided as a premium advantage to our Members who purchase directly from Disney Vacation Club.
With that in mind, please be aware of a policy change regarding the availability of Membership Extras to our membership. As previously communicated (effective March 21, 2011), Getaways included within the Disney Collection (e.g., Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney) and the Concierge Collection, which are now part of Membership Extras, have not been available for ownership interests not purchased directly from Disney Vacation Club. Now, effective April 4, 2016, Members who do not purchase their ownership interest directly from Disney Vacation Club will not have access to other Membership Extras, such as exclusive Member experiences and discounts. Please know that as a
current Disney Vacation Club Member (regardless of when or where you bought your membership), your access to Disney Differences and these additional Membership Extras will not be affected by this policy change. We see this policy change as a very positive step to ensure that, going forward, our Members who purchase directly from Disney Vacation Club receive a premium advantage – in addition to all the magic that Disney has to offer.

With this celebration, we’ve created unprecedented and exclusive Disney experiences for you and your family. Meanwhile, more than 10,000 Members have entered our Disney Vacation Club Silver Anniversary Sweepstakes, and thousands of you have booked the Member Cruise sailing from New York later this year.

I am not surprised. By purchasing resale you save a lot of money especially at current point pricing. I just wonder about families that own both how will they manage them and what more will they do. I think the perk we all enjoy is significant discounts on tickets and TIW. I know they are running a buisness but there are always 2 sides of a coin. We love Disney and DVC but if they really limit the perks on the resale they really hurt the product. There may be a glut of unsold shares which will drive down the value of membership.
