Racing Disney: Everything We Know About The Dark Side Challenge (So Far)

Hey there Main Streeters!

Today I want to talk to you about what we know so far about the runDisney Star Wars Dark Side Challenge (so far). The official event guide came out this week and now we know a little more about the courses runners will be taking on next month!

Anyone who has ever run a runDisney 5K at Walt Disney World should recognize the course for Dark Side. This is the same course the Walt Disney World 5K and Princess 5K take. This is a fun run through the World Showcase of Epcot and will no doubt be an epic run for Dark Side.

The 10K course is a new one for me (and I’m pretty sure it’s a new one for runDisney). This one starts in Epcot, but instead of including the World Showcase and Boardwalk areas (like Walt Disney World 10K and Enchanted 10K do), this one takes runners through a fraction of the park and then to Hollywood Studios, ending at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. If I were a betting person, I would bet that a similar course will also be used for the newly announced 10K that’s in Wine and Dine weekend (which we told you about last week).

The half marathon course for Dark Side is also different, going through Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom before finishing up again at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports. This course resembles the usual Wine and Dine course. Personally, I think it’s exciting that runDisney is using two different courses for their races. I could imagine if you did several Disney races, it would get boring to run the same routes. This way, if you run Dopey in January and Wine and Dine in November, you get to run different courses and experience running through different parts of the parks. Plus it gives you a reason to run more than one runDisney weekend at Walt Disney World.

In addition to the course maps, the race weekend Dooney and Burke pattern was released! Fans of the Dark Side should love this pattern…I’m not a fan, but I’ve never been a “villains” girl. Runners can preorder these bags through Active. They’ll also be available in limited supply at the Expo, but if you’re running, preordering is encouraged so you guarantee you get one!

So are you running Star Wars Dark Side? Are you getting excited? Good luck as you finish your training, and may the Force be with you.
